The Show

A block of West State Street, closed to traffic and open to cars from throughout the many decades of America's love affair with the automobile.

Brass-era, classics, post-war showpieces, hot rods, and the occasional electric specialty, parked along West State Street for one Saturday in July.

Grab coffee, walk the block, ask the owners about their cars. That's the show. The History Center handles registration and the storytelling side; the Downtown Ithaca Alliance handles the downtown side.

The 2026 show has come and gone.

Classic Cruisers ran on Saturday, July 11, and registration is now closed. Thanks to everyone who brought a car out and to everyone who walked the block. We plan to be back next summer, and sign-ups will open here again ahead of the show.

The 100 block of West State Street.

One block off The Commons, on the State Theatre block. Closed to traffic from 7 AM to roughly 3:30 PM.

If you're driving into town as a spectator, the Cayuga Street and Green Street garages are both a short walk. Cars for the show arrive via Geneva Street, and we send full directions to everyone who signs up.

A few things worth knowing.

What if it rains?

Cancelled if rain is forecast. We make the call by 8 PM Friday and email everyone signed up, so you don't drive downtown for nothing.

What counts as a "classic"?

We're casual about it. Brass-era, classics, mid-century cruisers, hot rods, restomods, and a few electric specialties from local transportation groups all came out last year. If your car has decades on it, or just decades of stories, it fits.

How do I get my car onto the block?

Arrival window is 8:30 to 9:45 AM, entering from Geneva Street. Volunteers will guide you in. If you've signed up, we'll email full directions in advance.

Can I leave early?

Plan to stay until 3 PM if you can — we coordinate one orderly exit at the end. Day-of emergencies happen, and a volunteer can walk you out, just talk to us.

Where do I park if I'm just visiting?

Standard downtown parking. The Cayuga Street and Green Street garages are both a short walk. The closed block is on West State between Geneva and Cayuga.
